Congratulations to Elizabeth Barrett-Connor, M.D. who has been named this year's recipient of the American Heart Association's Population Research Prize. The award was presented November 13th in Orlando at the opening ceremony
of the American Heart Association Meeting and "recognizes and rewards an individual who is making outstanding contributions to the advancement of cardiovascular science and who currently heads an outstanding cardiovascular population research laboratory."

The 2011 Melvin L. Marcus Memorial Award for Distinguished Contribution as a Gifted Teacher has been awarded to Dr. Michael H. Criqui,
Distinguished Professor and Chief, Division of Preventive Medicine, Department of Family and Preventive Medicine at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine, and Distinguished Professor in the Division of Cardiology, Department of Medicine. The awards was presented at the Opening Ceremony of the International Academy of Cardiology 16th World Congress on Heart Disease Annual Scientific Sessions in Vancouver, BC.
Geographic Variations In Medicaid Spending, an article co-authored by
Drs. Todd Gilmer and Richard Kronick in the July issue of Health Affairs,
is the first study to examine intrastate differences in Medicaid spending. The study found substantial variations in both the volume of services and the prices. Please click here for Abstract.
