Epidemiologist/Public Health Scientist with Interest in Women’s Health

The Department of Family and Preventive Medicine at the University of California, San Diego, invites applications for a faculty position in epidemiology/public health to develop and lead a Research Center of Excellence in the field of Women’s Health.  For this position, Women’s Health is broadly defined as encompassing women's health across the lifespan including reproductive and gynecologic issues as well as chronic diseases of aging; conditions where there are significant biological differences between the sexes in rates of susceptibility, symptoms and response to treatment; or a research focus on disease risks in women including diabetes, cognitive function, osteoporosis, and nutrition.

The successful candidate will have a PhD or MD with a proven track record in obtaining NIH (or comparable) funding and high productivity with regards to peer-reviewed publications.  This is a partially state funded position.  Applicants should place high priority on teaching medical and graduate students and mentoring the next generation of investigators. Applicants with experience working with underserved populations are particularly encouraged to apply.

UCSD School of Medicine offers a research-intensive environment with multiple opportunities for collaboration with colleagues at the Stein Institute for Research on Aging, the Moores UCSD Cancer Center, the UCSD Clinical and Translational Research Institute, and other departments. The Department of Family and Preventive Medicine offers a Ph.D. program in Public Health in collaboration with San Diego State University with foci in epidemiology, health behaviors, and global health. The Department of Family and Preventive Medicine is under the leadership of Dr. Bess Marcus, who assumed the position of Department Chair in the Spring of 2011.

Behavioral Medicine

Candidates should have either a PhD or MD with expertise in health behavior interventions including a particular focus on physical activity, weight management and/or cigarette smoking. CVD

The Department of Family and Preventive Medicine at the University of California, San Diego, , invites applications for a new faculty position. Appointment will be at the associate or full professor level, and will include tenured status. Candidates should have either a MD, with a MPH preferred, or a PhD, and expertise in cardiovascular disease epidemiology and related morbidities, such as diabetes, peripheral artery disease, and chronic kidney disease. The candidate should also be familiar with diet and exercise assessment, novel biomarkers, radiologic imaging techniques, body composition including skeletal muscle, and physical functioning. Successful applicants will have robust extramurally funded research programs and place high priority on teaching medical and graduate students and mentoring the next generation of investigators. Applicants with experience working with multi-ethnic populations are particularly encouraged to apply.
